  • September 2016 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute is named a semi-finalist for the Goering Center Family & Private Business Awards.
  • May 2016 – Chloe Heth, Indianapolis AFI student is named a finalist for the North American Hairstyling Awards [NAHA] Student Hairstylist of the Year.
  • October 2016 – Frederic Holzberger is inducted into Intercoiffure, the most powerful and influential organization in the hair dressing industry.

2015

  • January 2013 – “How Frederic Holzberger taps into his past to give others a future” – SmartBusiness, Cincinnati – Read Article
  • May 2013 – AFI Cincinnati alumni, Salta Asbury and Kerissa Sample, Indianapolis, are named North American Hairstyling Awards Student Hairstylist of the Year finalists.
  • December 2013 – AFI is named a Top 200 Salon by Salon Today magazine for Environmental Sustainability.

2012

  • January 2012 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati is honored to receive the Medical Mutual Pillar Award for Community Service.
  • March 2012 – AFI Cincinnati is a nominee for the Cincinnati Business Courier Green Business Awards for the renovation of an existing retail space into an environmentally-friendly education, salon-spa and retail operation.
  • April 2012 – After 6 months in operation at the new West Chester location, with all the finishing touches in place, AFI held a grand opening celebration welcoming nearly 1000 guests to their new home.
  • June 2012 – Frederic Holzberger is the 2012 UC DAAP Fashion Show honoree, recognizing him for his many years of support of the renown UC Fashion Design program and for his contributions to the world of beauty.
  • July 2012 – North American Hairstyling Awards [NAHA], held in Las Vegas, honored AFI Cincinnati alumni, Cassandra Monteyro, as this year’s Student Hairstylist of the Year. Cameron Jones, Indianapolis, was also named a finalist in same category. Alumni Daniel Holzberger was named finalist in the Contemporary Classic category. Congratulations to all!

2011

  • April 2011 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati student, Bella Hammer is selected as a finalist in the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) Student Hairstylist of the Year category. Winners will be announced in Las Vegas this July.
  • May 2011 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati announces relocation plans to Voice of America Center in West Chester, Ohio this October. This strategic move will allow for easier access for students from all over the Tri-State area and beyond. Patterned after the award winning AFI Indianapolis, this new location will also feature a “Blue Room” designed for extreme comfort and relaxation in the shampoo process. The entire 28,226 sq. ft. facility will be built with the most state-of-the-art technology and environmental building products available.

2010

  • May 2010 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati student, Rebecca Cowles and Aveda Fredric’s Institute Indianapolis student Patrick Mathes were selected as finalists in the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) Student Hairstylist of the Year category.
  • July 2010 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute – Indianapolis student, Patrick Mathes is awarded NAHA Student Hairstylist of the Year.
  • July 2010 – Frederic Holzberger is inducted into the NAHA Hall of Leaders.

2009

  • May 2009 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati student, Corey Lofton was selected as a finalist in the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) Student Hairstylist of the Year category.
  • May 2009 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati alumni, Daniel Holzberger was selected as a finalist for two North American Hairstylying Award catagories, NAHA’s Avant Garde Hairstylist of the Year and NAHA’s Editorial Hairstylist of the Year. Daniel was named NAHA’s Editorial Hairstylist of the Year at the NAHA Award Ceremony in Las Vegas, NV on July 19. 2009.
  • July 2009 – Out of 100 entrants, 5 students from the Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati and 6 students from Aveda Fredric’s Institute Indianapolis were awarded The Salon Association Beacon Award allowing them to travel to the annual TSA convention in Las Vegas, NV giving them the opportunity to connect with and learn from the most successful salon/spa owners in the industry.
  • July 2009 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati is named a finalist for The Goering Family Center Business of the Decade Award. The award ceremony will be held August 25th at Cincinnati Music Hall.

2008

  • January 2008 – Out of 100 entrants, 4 students from the Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati are awarded The Salon Association Beacon Award allowing them to travel to the annual TSA convention in Orlando and participate in an opportunity to jump start their careers through various mentoring experiences.
  • March 2008 – Aveda Institute students, Chelsea Vittorio and Danielle Bowman are selected as finalists in the North American Hairstylist Awards (NAHA) Student Hairstylist of the Year category.
  • March 2008 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute students, Chelsea Vittorio and Danielle Bowman are selected as finalists in the North American Hairstylist Awards (NAHA) Student Hairstylist of the Year category. Aveda Fredric’s Institute Alumni, Daniel Holzberger was also selected as a finalist in the Hairstylist of the Year Category and the Avant Garde Catagory.
  • July 2008 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute – Indianapolis student, Chelsea Vittorio is awarded NAHA Student Hairstylist of the Year.

2007

  • January – February 2007 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute students continue to regularly participate in CinWeekly’s Bridal, Spring and Fall Fashion issues by creating the hair and makeup looks for the models.
  • February 2007 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati completes its third expansion creating office space and 3 new classrooms on the upper level, making room for additional service stations, rejuvenation room and dispensary expansions to be completed this spring.
  • March 2007 – Aveda Institute students, Jessica Zehnder and Mandy Wooten are selected as finalists in the North American Hairstylist Awards (NAHA) Student Hairstylist of the Year category. The Aveda Fredric’s Institute Indianapolis is also selected as a finalist in the Salon Design of the Year category. Awards presentation will take place July 15.
  • May 2007 – The first post graduate makeup classes begin at the Indianapolis Institute location. This course was created to enhance opportunities for our graduates within the beauty industry and fill the demand for additional education in the world of makeup.
  • June 2007 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute is named a Hometown Favorite by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
  • July 2007 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute student, Jessica Zehnder was named the North American Hairstylist Student Hairstylist of the Year.
  • July 2007 – Aveda Fredric’s Institute is awarded the Gold Citation from American School and University Educational Interiors Showcase
  • August 2007 – AFI Cincinnati students complete the editorial looks for the CinWeekly Fall Fashion Preview, and the Cincinnati Enquirer Fall Fashion Preview.
  • Winter 2007 – AFI Cincinnati students complete the editorial looks for Cincinnati Magazine Wedding Issue supplement.
  • October 2007 – The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment recognized the Aveda Fredric’s Institute Indianapolis in their first ever awards competition for sustainable design. This marks the fourth design award received by the AFI Indianapolis.

2006

  • January 2006 – Six Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati students travel to San Diego for annual TSA Convention under a TSA Beacon Student scholarship.
  • February 2006 – Aveda Fredric’s institute Cincinnati is featured in Cincinnati Magazine’s cover feature: “BARGAINS! The Best Deals on Everything”
  • February 2006 – Three Aveda Fredric’s Institute Cincinnati students along with Instructor, Michelle Bertke, participate in a 14 page Bridal Guide by providing all of the hair, up-styling and makeup.
  • March 2006 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute Indianapolis celebrates its grand opening, Sunday, March 12th hosting over 900 guests. Many special guests attended including Aveda founder, Horst Rechelbacher. The celebration included a ribbon cutting and dedication with the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds from retail sales were donated to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter and Project Daymaker. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and dedication to “Develop the Future Leaders in the World of Beauty and Wellness.”
  • April – June 2006 – The AFI Indianapolis receives great design recognition in several publications including: STORES, Beauty Launch Pad, Modern Salon and Skin Inc.
  • June 2006 – The AFI Indianapolis receives recognition from Salon Today for being one of the Salon of the Year, Top Salons of Distinction.
  • October 2006 – Frederic Holzberger is presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by Aveda Corporation at Aveda Mid America Tour, and was inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in Hamilton, Ohio. Both distinguished awards honor the many great contributions that Frederic has made the beauty and wellness industry.
  • November 2006 – The Cincinnati and Indianapolis Aveda Fredric’s Institutes are presented the “President’s Environmental Award”, and instructors Dede Mounce and Amy Lewis are presented the “Leading Through Education Award” at the 2006 Aveda Institute’s Summit.

2005

  • January 2005 – The AFI is featured in CinWeekly as one of 12 Secrets of a Savvy Saver; “#4 Cut your hair . . . expenses.” Frederic Holzberger is featured in a Cincinnati Enquirer article “Beauty profession timeless, appealing.”
  • February 2005 – Alumni Daniel and Nikki Holzberger are featured in Salon City Star Magazine with a Spring Makeover. The March, June and October issues feature Daniel and Nikki again.
  • April 2005 – The AFI is featured in CinWeekly in “How to Give a Massage.”
  • June 2005 – Six AFI students are featured on the front page, full color, of the Cin. Enquirer Tempo section for an article entitled “Hair that Stands up to the Heat.”
  • July 2005 – The AFI hold its first Spa-Esthiology Nail Esthetics Scholarship.
  • August 2005 – AFI Students participate in Fall Style trends feature in CinWeekly.
  • October 2005 – The AFI holds the first Spa-Esthiology Nail Esthetics Scholarship contest in Indiana. Thirteen finalists receive a $1000 scholarship and one full scholarship winner.
  • November 2005 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute opens a second location in Indianapolis, Indiana at Castleton Square Mall.
  • December 2005 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute Indianapolis receives Indiana State Board licensing. First Cosmetology and Esthiology classes begin December 7.

2004

  • January 2004 – TSA Beacon Award – Out of 100 entrants, 15 students from the Aveda Fredric’s Institute are awarded The Salon Association Beacon Award allowing them to travel to the annual TSA convention in Orlando, FL and learn from the masters of the industry. Each year additional students will travel to the TSA annual convention.
  • August 2004 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute holds its Natural Talent Scholarship contest – $20,000 in tuition scholarships were presented with the grand prize winner receiving a full tuition to the Aveda Fredric’s Institute for enrollment in the January 2005 Cosmetology class.
  • August 2004 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute receives it’s fifth consecutive Award of Excellence from the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology commending the staff and students for a job well done.
  • October 2004 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute is proud to once again be a finalist for the annual Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for marketplace ethics held in Cincinnati, Ohio.

2003

  • January 2003 – TSA Beacon Award – Out of 100 entrants, 17 students from the Aveda Fredric’s Institute are awarded The Salon Association Beacon Award allowing them to travel to the annual TSA convention in Las Vegas and participate in an opportunity to jump start their careers.
  • March 2003 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute is host to Seventeen Magazine’s Sweet Stuff sweepstakes winner and nine of her friends. They were all pampered with an afternoon of beauty by the students of the Institute. Seventeen found the Institute on the internet and loved the services and website graphics!
  • April 2003 – Aveda Earth Month Hero Shero award for highest number of pledges collected.
  • June 2003 – Earth and Humanity award for Business Place Ethics is presented to the Institute at the 2003 Aveda/Fredric’s Mid America Tour.
  • September 2003 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute receives its fourth consecutive “Award of Excellence” from the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. This award is given to schools who have placed in the top 20% of all schools as measured by passage percentage.
  • October 2003 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute holds its first annual Natural Talent Scholarship contest – $25,000 in tuition scholarships were presented with the grand prize winner receiving a full tuition to the Aveda Fredric’s Institute for enrollment in the July 2004 Cosmetology class.
  • December 2003 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute receives a three year accreditation from NACCAS. The National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and accredits about 1000 schools serving more than 100,000 students.

2002

  • January 2002 – TSA Beacon Award – six students from the Aveda Fredric’s Institute are awarded The Salon Association Beacon Award allowing them to travel to the annual TSA convention.
  • April 2002 – Ohio Stylist and Salon – Feature article “‘the Holzbergers: Raising the Bar in Education” calls the Institute “one of the premier educational centers in the country.”
  • May 2002 – Ohio Stylist and Salon – Feature article “Project Daymaker Takes Generosity on the Road.” Daniel and Nicole Holzberger are able to work on Project Daymaker for the first time since graduating in cosmetology from the Aveda Fredric’s Institute. A 2500 sq. ft. addition of the Institute is completed. The expansion includes an addition of a Color room, classroom, expanded Esthiology department, makeup area, 2 restrooms and office. The expansion is reported in Ohio Stylist, Sept. 2002, DaySpa, Oct. 2002 and Skin Inc., Oct. 2002.
  • October 2002 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute is once again a finalist for the annual Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for marketplace ethics is held in Cincinnati, Ohio. This award is given in recognition of a business’s outstanding commitment to ethical standards in their relationship to their customers, employees, suppliers, competitors and surrounding community.

2001

  • January 2000 – Dermascope Magazine – Institute Instructors author a feature article on “Skin Care Education for a New Millennium.”
  • February 2000 – Salon News – Institute featured and photographed in “School Ties” article. “As cosmetology schools across the country revamp their image with cutting edge spa-like decor, they are, in effect, inspiring a new generation of stylists.”
  • March 2000 – Cincinnati City Beat staff votes Aveda Fredric’s Institute “Best Bargain Styling” in their annual “Best Of the City” Issue.
  • April 2000 – First Cosmetology class graduates with second Esthiology class.
  • September 2000 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute receives its first “Award of Excellence” from the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. This award is given to schools who have placed in the top 20% of all schools as measured by passage percentage. This award will be received again in August each year up to 2005.
  • November 2000 – Cincinnati Magazine recognizes the Aveda Fredric’s Institute as “Best Budget Indulgence” in their annual “Best of the City” issue.
  • December 2000 – Modern Salon – Students are recognized for a Hair and Fashion Show fundraiser produced in September of this year. The benefactor, Camp Sunrise, a local summer camp free for children who have been impacted by HIV and AIDS, was presented with a check for $1,700 at the event. Modern Salon covers the school again in July of 2001 for their Hair and Fashion Show raising nearly $3,000 for Breast Cancer research and awareness.

2000

  • January 2001 – American Salon – “Aveda Fredric’s Institute Thrives” reports on the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology’s Award of Excellence and includes a photo of the first graduating class.
  • April 2001 – Les Nouvelles Esthetique covers Institute hosting Tour of World Gymnastic Champions for hair, nail and makeup services.
  • October 2001 – The first annual Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for marketplace ethics is held in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Aveda Fredric’s Institute is a finalist out of 49 nominations. This award is given in recognition of a business’s outstanding commitment to ethical standards in their relationship to their customers, employees, suppliers, competitors and surrounding community.

1999

  • May 1999 – The Aveda Fredric’s Institute opens its doors. A private, licensed school of cosmetology, esthiology and nail esthetics and retail center-the school provides the salon network with an opportunity to hire individuals educated in all aspects of salon operations. “The Institute is part of our ‘ecosystem’ and helps put salons on the path of success,” says owner, Frederic Holzberger.
  • November 1999 – The first Esthiology class graduates.
  • December 1999 – American Salon, American Spa and Les Nouvelles Esthetique cover the Institute’s debut and grand opening. An article in Salon Today, “Beyond the Basics,” features the Institute’s progressive approach to beauty school.
